Performance Analysis of Transmission Characteristics of 2X2 MIMO-OFDM System for BPSK Modulation
Abstract
A detailed analysis of the performance of 2×2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna system has been carried out by determining the transmit diversity using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) techniques. The transmission characteristics are determined for Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation. Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) has been used presuming flat fading Rayleigh channel. On the receiver side, linear equalization technique such as Zero Forcing (ZF) was employed for computing the BER performance. The simulation results show that for Single Input Single Output (SISO) system with BPSK modulation for 5 dB of Eb/N0 a BER of 0.0654 is obtained over OFDM modulation, and for 2X2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system with BPSK modulation for 5 dB of Eb/N0 a BER of 0.0362 is obtained over OFDM modulation which is significantly less. The MIMO - OFDM multiplexing schemes show an overall improvement of 55% in BER performance for same Eb/N0 value but for different antenna diversity. Further as literature survey detailed comparison of BER performance for different digital modulation for both SISO and MIMO systems has been carried out and simulations results are presented and discussed in the paper
