Abstract

Project tackles the topic of improvement and the applicability of lean principles in the softwood plywood industry by first giving a background on the structure of the industry. Different stages of plywood manufacture (green stage, dryers, layup and press, and finishing stage) were discussed in terms of the value-creating nature of their steps. Using value stream mapping process non value creating steps are identified and eliminate from the process. Supplier selection method modified and introduced efficient machinery to improve performance
