An Expandable and Secure Key Pre-Distribution Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks
Abstract
The communication in wireless sensor network requires security, as it can be captured easily by attackers. In order to acquire security in wireless sensor network, key pre-distribution is needed. Key Pre-distribution means that the keys will be distributed to the nodes before deployment of the nodes. Scalability or expandability of the number of nodes in the network is another challenging issue in wireless sensor networks. In addition to security and scalability, another challenging issue in a WSN is the overhead involved in path establishment between two nearby nodes when they don’t have a key in common. A new and unique key pre-distribution scheme, must be designed in such a way that scalability of nodes and security of nodes in the network should be as maximum as possible. So three of the challenging issues in WSN are scalability, security and path establishment overhead when two near-by nodes are not having a common key. This study deals with a new extremely scalable and secure key pre-distribution scheme for wireless sensor networks. This newly designed scheme also avoids the need for establishing paths when two nearby nodes are not having a common key to communicate with each other.
