Analysis of Hazard and Operability Problems of Steam Networks in Sulphuric Acid Plant – A Process Hazards Analysis in Fact
Abstract
Identifying hazards and operability problems is fundamental for ensuring the safe design and operation of a system in chemical plants. The purpose of this study is to analyse the hazardous spots of steam network in Sulphuric acid plant in FACT using a best Process hazards analysis. After studying and analyzing the working of Sulphuric acid plant in FACT and also by reviewing the literature about different tools used for hazard and operability analysis, it was found very clear that the HAZOP analysis is the most suitable tool for hazard and operability analysis. In FACT, the process hazards analysis were done at the design stage of plant which only includes the preparation of HAZOP worksheet, i.e. qualitative data. Several modifications were done after the implementation of plant. So it is relevant to do a periodic process hazards analysis in the Sulphuric acid plant. This project also aims to rank each process parameter based on criticality, i.e. quantitative data and hence identify the most critical process parameter in the steam network
