Simulate and Study the Effect of Friction in Deep Drawing By using DYNA Form
Abstract
The geometry of the die plays a vital role in deep drawing. The parameters like radial clearance , die profile radius, punch profile radius etc. are responsible for obtaining the desired results, since the proper selection of these parameters can easily control the various defects like wrinkles, earing, cracking etc. For many calculations the sheet metal thickness is assumed to remain constant after deep drawing. However these are changes in thickness in certain areas because of friction between the die, punch, binder and the blank. Large friction forces there, will increase the punch force and consequently the load on the wall of the product. Excessive friction forces in the blank holder may cause failure of the product, so the friction in the blank holder must be limited. The aim of the study is to use the explicit finite element package of DynaForm in order to investigate the effect of friction in deep drawing of cylindrical cup keeping the other parameters like die profile radius, punch profile radius and blank holder load constant, subject to the constraints that fracture failure and draw in failure do not occur.
